Bas relief art is a technique dating back to Ancient Greek and Roman Times and was most prominent in Renaissance Italy between the 1400s and 1600s. Bas relief sculpture has forms that project in varying degrees from the background, whilst no part of the relief is completely detached from the sculpture. 

There are very few artists around today that practice this exacting art form and we are sure you will agree from browsing our website, that these artworks require a great degree of skill and flair to create. Every artwork you see on our site has been created in free hand by George Mark, a founder of Outstanding Art and a highly skilled sculptor. George has been creating bas reliefs for many years.

Each bas relief is created from scratch by hand using wet clay. Once the original bas relief piece is completed, we take a mould of the original from which bonded casts are made. These casts are normally available in bronze, aluminium and alabaster finishes.

Every cast is hand finished and detailed, making each cast unique. No two casts will be exactly the same as they will differ in subtle ways from each other.
